Your Degree Isn’t a Life Sentence, You Can Change Your Path

Your BCom doesn’t have to make you an accountant forever. You’re allowed to change. You’re allowed to try.

Let’s be honest: most of us didn’t pick our college degree because we knew exactly what we wanted to do.
Half the time, someone else picked for us.
“Engineering lelo, safe hai.”
“Commerce mein scope hai.”
You went along. You passed your exams. Maybe you even did well.

But now you’re out of college, looking at job portals, and your heart just isn’t in the thing you studied.
You see jobs in design, marketing, tech, HR, things you never even studied, but suddenly they look interesting.
And in your head:
“Can I even do this? Am I stuck with my degree forever?”

Here’s what no one tells you:
Your degree isn’t a jail sentence.
It’s just one starting point.

We’ve seen it again and again.
Someone who did BCom, now working in digital marketing.
A mechanical engineer, making reels and writing content for brands.
A pharmacist, now running a startup.
The path from your degree to your career isn’t a straight line for most people.
It’s more like… a messy local train route. Change stations. Change directions. Find your stop.

Maybe you feel like a fake applying to jobs outside your degree.
Maybe you worry, “What will people say?”
But honestly?
Most companies care much more about what you can do, and what you’re willing to learn, than what’s written on your degree.
The world is full of people who studied one thing and built their careers doing something completely different.
That awkward feeling you get when you open a job application for something new?
Everyone who switched fields has felt it.
You’re not alone.

Of course, there’s a catch.
You can’t just wish your way into a new field.
You have to build proof, projects, skills, something you can show.
Your degree might get your foot in one door.
Your work gets you through the next five.

So, if you studied civil engineering but want to work in UI/UX, start building simple designs.
If you did chemistry but want to get into finance, start learning the basics and follow finance news.
Take an online course, not ten, not just for the certificate, but to see if you actually enjoy the work.
Try a freelance project.
Do a side project, even if it’s small.

Because your degree tells people where you started.
Your skills tell them where you’re going.

Maybe your parents remind you about your “core field” every week.
Maybe your relatives ask, “Why did you do engineering if you wanted to do marketing?”
Let them talk.
You get to decide what happens next.
You get to change your mind.
You’re allowed to try again.

You don’t have to throw your degree in the dustbin.
You just don’t have to let it decide your whole story.
You can carry what you learned.
You can build something new.

Don’t waste time chasing every skill you see.
Pick the ones that fit where you want to go.
Try, adjust, and move forward.

That’s exactly why Kaabil exists, so you can see what skills you need for the jobs you actually want, not just the ones your degree says you qualify for.
